University of Western Cape – Since 2006

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a public university located in Bellville, in Cape Town. UWC consists of one main campus and a number of off-site residences and specialised schools. The Risk and Compliance department of UWC is responsible for all Security, Health & Safety, Emergency Responses, and Campus Protection Operations.

Chase provides for incident and investigation management. There are five Chase modules implemented at UWC, namely:  Risk, Compliance, Manpower, Integration and Mobile.

Risk focusses on incident management for all incidents. They follow a process where incidents are logged via the central control room, and it’s then escalated to investigators responsible for gathering information, storing the information on Chase, and closing the investigations. Maintenance related incidents is sent through via email to the relevant department for actioning.

Compliance enables Campus Protection staff to conduct checks, inspections and reports whilst on patrol between all the various gates and posts. In addition, Compliance is used by the main control room and also the smaller satellite control rooms to log shift handovers, debrief meetings, and general checks related to quality control. When used via the Chase Mobile App, the system provides mapping capability to show where and when checks were done (using the mobile device’s location services). This assists a great deal in proving presence, location, and exact time when checks were done.

The Integrator and Manpower modules were activated for UWC to track and clock in/out times of Campus Protection staff. The staff member can clock in/out via the on-site biometric fingerprint reader, and management can track clock in/out of staff. This assists in measuring hours worked and loss time.

In terms of governance the reporting function plays a significant role in providing important data for risk management decision making and operational planning. In addition, Chase reports are presented in community safety forums which includes the local City Improvement District (CID), Metro Police, and South African Police. Statistical reports generated in Chase greatly assists in measurement of criminal activity in and around the university.

AVIS Rent a Car

Avis is one of South Africa’s leading car rental companies.  Avis was experiencing major issues where vehicles were damaged and not reported costing them millions.

Chase provides integration and file storage capabilities with Avis’ LPR (License Plate Recognition) and video management platform. Chase processes and stores multiple images (front, sides and rear images) as vehicles leave and when the vehicle are returned. This provides Avis with before and after imagery of the vehicle and links that to the client.

This allows Avis to accurately identify when a vehicle was damaged and places the responsibility of repair costs on the client. Through this solution Avis saves a significant amount of money as well as decreases in their insurance claims.

Their checklists can be very comprehensive and some contain in excess of 300 checks.

Marshall Security

Marshall Security is a Durban North based security services provider, specializing in Armed Response, Alarm Monitoring, Community and Corporate Guarding.

The Chase Risk Module has been implemented to enable Marshall Security to manage incidents via their central control room. Chase replaced manual paper-based processes thus improving reporting, operational efficiency, and communications.

University of Kwazulu-Natal

The University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN) is one of the largest universities in South Africa, with approximately 50 000 students. UKZN issued a tender in 2014 for a Risk Management System to be implemented. The requirement was for a solution to be implemented whereby incidents, occurrences, risks, and emergencies could be managed electronically by a central system, accessible to their 5 campuses situated in and around Durban.

Chase was selected as the preferred software solution and the following modules are currently implemented at UKZN: Risk, Traffic and Integration.

Risk focusses on incident management for safety and security incidents. They follow a process where incidents are logged via the central control room, and it’s then escalated to investigators responsible for gathering information, storing the information on Chase, and closing investigations.

Chase processes student and staff mobile panic alarms via integration with the UKZN in-house mobile panic application. Once the student presses the panic button, an audible alarm is generated in the control room, this allows a control room operator to take control of the alarm, see where the alarm was generated from, gain access to contact information of the student, follow predefined procedures as part of the response, and provide feedback. Investigators manage investigations and cases in Chase.

Chase Traffic is used by both students and staff at UKZN. Students have the ability to request parking via the UKZN intranet, and these requests are then processed by Traffic personnel in the Chase desktop application. Upon approval, a parking permit is produced by Chase and printed for the student. Integration with the student and staff management applications allows for costs of parking and/or fines to be processed to the student loan account or to the staff member salary.

In terms of governance the reporting function plays a significant role in providing important data for risk management decision making and operational planning.
